Five Years of R&D Focus: WONDERLAB Continues Advancing Probiotic Innovation

2024-05-30

On May 21, WONDERLAB’s 12-day fifth-anniversary event concluded in Wanning, Hainan. After five years of focused work in probiotics, WONDERLAB had grown into a leading probiotic company in China. The brand had also recently received a market-position confirmation letter from Frost & Sullivan recognizing it as the No. 1 probiotic brand in sales in China over the previous three years.

At the event, more than 200 users and creators gathered under the theme “Explore Coastal Blue and Surf toward the Next Five Years,” exploring the many possibilities for WONDERLAB’s next chapter.

Upgraded “Blue Bottle” Formula Draws Attention as R&D Drives Continued Innovation

During the fifth-anniversary series, WONDERLAB held health talks, product co-creation sessions, yoga, surfing and other activities. Through these actions, the brand communicated its evidence-based probiotic R&D philosophy and its commitment to long-term development.

The newly upgraded All-in-One Probiotics (nicknamed “Blue Bottle”) attracted attention from users online and offline. As WONDERLAB’s flagship product, it uses six strains selected from more than 15,000 candidates, with each strain supported by clinical validation. The upgraded formula places greater emphasis on globally sourced high-quality ingredients and scientific formulation. According to a human RCT, the “Blue Bottle” was reported to help support the gut barrier, maintain stability over time and support overall well-being from within.

In its five years since founding, WONDERLAB has invested nearly RMB 100 million in R&D under its evidence-based product philosophy. It has continued to introduce probiotic products welcomed by consumers and to promote a lifestyle beneficial to both physical and mental well-being.

As of April 2024, WONDERLAB’s probiotic line had served more than 7 million consumers. That same month, based on research into the mainland China probiotic market and data from January 2021 through December 2023, Frost & Sullivan issued WONDERLAB a market-position confirmation letter recognizing it as No. 1 in probiotic sales in China.

For this event, WONDERLAB also brought a pop-up store to the Wanning coast, creating a blue surfing pop-up called the “WONDERLAB Pop-up Store” and inviting users to explore coastal blue together. The store used the brand’s distinctive “WONDER BLUE” color, described as a color of life exploration, and a container-inspired “Blue Bottle” probiotic design. The result expressed a fashionable, forward-looking, energetic and vibrant brand attitude, creating an offline setting for reaching sports-minded consumers and a new check-in destination for young people.

Empty Bottle Return Program Launches Offline as WONDERLAB Calls for Care of Our “Blue” Planet

On May 10, WONDERLAB launched the 2024 fourth season of its Empty Bottle Return Program offline in Wanning. Artist Li Yitong also presented a new environmental installation. Using recycled empty bottles, Li extracted cloud and sand as artistic elements and created the “WONDERLAND” cloud-and-sand beach installation inside a “Transparent Box,” using art to express WONDERLAB’s vision for a blue planet and its call for sustainable development.

WONDERLAB formally launched the Empty Bottle Return Program in 2022, encouraging consumers to recycle every bottle after use. At the time of publication, 11,885 users had participated, more than 1.48 million bottles had been collected, and the total recycled weight exceeded 8 tonnes—equivalent to an estimated reduction of 19,322,199 g of carbon emissions. WONDERLAB planned to continue sustainability actions including the “Blue Bottle Return” bottle-recycling program, empty-bottle upcycling through artistic reuse, and ocean-environment initiatives involving the recovery of ocean plastic, encouraging collective care for our shared home.

Although the fifth-anniversary brand event had ended, WONDERLAB’s journey at age five was only beginning. Going forward, the brand would continue to deepen its work in probiotics, pursue technological innovation, offer consumers more science-based and health-oriented products and better services, and explore more “blue” possibilities together.
