The 29th National Academic Conference of the Chinese Pediatric Society (NCCPS 2024) was organized by the Chinese Medical Association (CMA) and the Chinese Pediatric Society, Chinese Medical Association, and hosted by the Shaanxi Medical Association. Held in Xi’an from October 10 to 13, 2024, the conference brought together leading pediatric experts and scholars from China and abroad. It aimed to promote the development of pediatrics in China, advance progress and innovation in medical research, and safeguard children’s physical and mental health.

At the event, Chief Physician Xihong Liu, Vice Chair of the Pediatric Health Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and a member of the European Milk Bank Association, was invited to chair a special session. She said: “Human research on gut health has a history of about 300 years. Probiotics play an important role in gut health. When selecting probiotics, key considerations include strain quantity, viability, efficacy and safety.”

At the special session, Chief Physician Xiaoyang Sheng, Vice Chair of the Maternal and Child Nutrition Branch of the Chinese Nutrition Society, delivered a presentation titled “Child Health Care and Probiotics.” Sheng said: “Childhood is a critical period for establishing a healthy gut microbiota, and probiotics play an important role in children’s growth and health.”

In the clinical research she presented, Sheng described reported effects of Bifidobacterium breve, Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus and Limosilactobacillus reuteri in reducing inflammation and allergic responses in children, reducing iron deficiency and anemia, preventing atopic dermatitis in children, and addressing symptoms of allergic rhinitis and asthma. She also explained the advantages and clinical effects of breast-milk-derived strains. Among these, Lactobacillus fermentum CECT5716 is one of the probiotic species known to occur at relatively high levels in human milk and was included in 2016 on the List of Strains Permitted for Use in Foods for Infants and Young Children approved by China’s National Health Commission. The research reported that appropriately supplementing probiotics containing the three strains above and the breast-milk-derived strain may help prevent or improve rotavirus diarrhea and upper respiratory tract infections in preschool children, support overall sleep quality and bowel movements, and help regulate children’s gut health.

According to the source, WONDERLAB Kids Probiotics (Little Yellow Bottle) contains 20 billion CFU of live cultures per bottle. Its main formula includes four imported strains: Lactobacillus fermentum CECT5716, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, Bifidobacterium breve and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus. Its clinical research report describes a six-month randomized, double-blind clinical trial conducted during product development among preschool children who were physically vulnerable and prone to illness. The study verified the viability of the probiotics and reported that appropriately supplementing the product may help preschool children establish a healthy gut microbiota during growth.

WONDERLAB has consistently followed a science- and evidence-based approach to product research and development. In recent years, it has appeared at authoritative clinical and microbiology research conferences in China and abroad, reflecting its commitment to participating more deeply in clinical microbiology research and advancing progress in gut health. In the future, WONDERLAB will continue strengthening medical collaborations, following international frontiers in microbiology, and supporting research and development in the probiotic industry.
